I’ve had a great couple of days at the NACC in Louisville. Yesterday I led a contemplative prayer session at 8 AM. There were no sinners among those who attended. Only saints show up at 8 AM for contemplative prayer.
Last night Dave Stone did a great job. He comes across with a great deal of authenticity.
The highlight so far has been Jerry Taylor. He rocked the house in yesterday’s morning session. Jerry doesn’t have to tell jokes or share personal anecdotes or use the typical preacher illustrations. All he has to do is start stringing words together. He starts slowly and builds. By the time he finishes, everyone is on their feet clapping and shouting. He preached the last minute of his sermon yesterday over the standing ovation of the crowd. We wouldn’t stop clapping and he wouldn’t stop preaching. Help me somebody!
I fly back to T-Town later today. Unfortunately I’m getting in too late to ride bikes with the boys.

I think what he meant by that was that no “sinner” in his/her right mind would get up at 7:30 to be at an 8:00 contemplative prayer session let alone a saint. I believe even the most devout saint might fall asleep at a contemplative prayer session that early in the morning. Same thing happens in my 8 AM Greek class.
Got to get that tape! Thanks for the update. What a blessing this year has been so far for bringing people together. I just wish we could do more to bring the people of the churches together.
Peace.
Kyler–you nailed it.
Did you get a chance to hear David Faust? I bought his book on 1st and 2nd Peter. Loved it.
Have to agree with you about Jerry Taylor. He’s been at the Rochester College Sermon Seminar for the past two years. What a blessing he is!
Wade…I loved Walling/Stone’s Bible exchange too. I thought that was an incredible moment that will be permanently embossed on my memory. Dave Stone and David Faust were terrific as well. All of my experiences with leaders from Christian churches have been terrific. What a great week!
Wade,
I wish I could have met you at the NACC. I read your blog frequently. The convention was great, and Jerry Taylor rocked!
Blessings,
Mike Kjergaard
Tell me about it. When I asked Jerry to serve as the associate preaching minister here, Rick Atchley told me it wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve ever done. He said my joy at Jerry’s acceptance reminded him of how glad Drew Bledsoe said he was to have Tom Brady come on as a back-up.
You’re right. Jerry can rock the house!!
Wade, I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you at the Convention. It was a very enriching time and I enjoyed so many different things. The Thursday night session was, I think, pivotal … and one of those times that will certainly be written about as the next generation of history writers seek to describe how we all held hands in faith and said we would no longer recognize the walls between us.
Wade, just wanted to thank you for GTO sending me the CD of Leonard Sweet’s “Starucks” sermon! It was awesome! In fact, I’m doing that message for Southside in September for a bring your neighbor day. I’ve talked with my local Starbucks and they were excited to give me Starbucks coffee for free including cups!
I’ll have to get the tape of Taylor’s sermon as well. Thanks again!

Not sure if you were saying it tongue in cheek but what did you mean by “no sinners showed up…”?
