Conspiracy?

The biggest mystery in sports right now is why did the Grizzlies trade Pao Gasol to the Lakers in what appears to be one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history? It makes no sense. Unless the higher ups in the NBA saw the Celtic sun rising in the east and decided it was time to give the world a Lakers-Celtics match-up in the Finals. So the word came down to the Grizzlies, “Send Gasol to the Lakers no matter what.” After the trade, I bet David Stern was thinking that the Grizzlies could have done a little better job at not telegraphing the pass, but since when have the Grizzlies been reliable? Everything has had to break just right for it to happen, but so far so good. If the Celtics can close out the Pistons, then the NBA gets what it wants (and needs).

If it does happen, don’t kid yourself into thinking that it will compare to the classic Celtic-Laker match-ups in the 80’s. It won’t. There was something special about those battles that won’t be repeated anytime soon. I don’t think that’s just my childhood nostalgia talking either.

  1. Well, looks like thats whats going on.

I’m not even a basketball fan and I agree with you that its won’t be the same. There were even video games made about nothing but Lakers/Celtics back then. Thats epic!

  2. I trust your insight in two areas only. One is Celtic history. You are right…this will be much different than those wonderful and epic battles of the 80’s but at least we get to see tons of old highlights along the way. Of course I’ve ripped them all off of YouTube already so maybe ABC should come to me for the old footage.

The other area I trust you in? Everything else not related to Celtic history. It’s a narrow category but you’re only good at what you’re only good at.

  3. You are right . . . not the same as the 80’s . . . however . . . Kobe’s as good as Magic and Bird . . .no question about it.

    He’s probably even better.

    JG

  4. As a life-long Pistons fan, I can’t stand the Celtics. And I’d love to see Phil Jackson break Red Auerbach’s record for championships.

    So… Go Lakers!

But more importantly, Go Red Wings!

  5. I am a huge spurs fan.
I was disappointed that they didn’t call the faul in game 4. Brent Berry would have made that shot and the free throws.
The ref had an issue with the spurs.
So I do think there was a conspiracy.
He was the same ref who gave Tim Duncan the technical for laughing and threw the coach out of the game.
    Definately a conspiracy.

I am going to be wearing my green now!
    Can’t stand the lakers.
    Go Boston GO!!!!!!
