Four Views of God

Time magazine has some interesting graphics showing the Four Views of God that came out of the survey results released from Baylor University back in September.

What’s really intrigues me is the correlation between a person’s view of God and their political positions.

Here is a related article.

  1. I’m not sure that I could emphatically choose any one of these views of God…

I do find it interesting that no matter which of the four views people leaned towards, politically speaking our nation (as represented by the survey): 1. Is pro-choice with regard to abortion, which makes me sad, and 2. Is all for the protection and/or betterment of our environment.

All that really tells me is this: with regard to american politics, we the people, truly are a bunch of lemmings… As long as I can remember (I am 30) these two “hot-topics” have been critical divertions/talking points (however one might view them) for politicians, and with no real resolution or action, I might add. I also think it’s interesting how many of us (and I may be way off in my assessment here) are seemingly ready to cast off Capitalism for Socialism (see the redistribution of wealth survey question). Listen, I’m all for taking care of the hungry/naked, in fact I am compelled to do this. I find absolute joy in meeting those needs, and like many of us, I long to do it more. I’m just not ready for the government to be the mechanism for our wealth redistribution. Even in socialist states, this never works out quite the way it does in theory. And my personal belief is that it robs me of an opportunity to be a blessing first hand… Jesus charges the individual, as well as the collective whole (His Church), to be about caring for the down-trodden…

Human kings are/will always be corrupt. That is why God was so disappointed when His people wanted a human king. And that is why He has called us out of worldly thinking/behavior, and asked us to submit to His athority, His Kingship. As a servant to The King, I am obliged to “redistribute wealth” because the wealth is not mine, but the King’s. In our case, the King has expressed His will that what belongs to Him, should be used to demostrate His overwhelming Love for His People.

FYI – I have fear that what I just typed may come across as too elementary for your readers. None the less, it’s what was on my mind…
