Genesis Class

Tonight I’m beginning a class on Genesis that will track with my Sunday morning preaching. I’ve found I can do a much better job on Sunday if I’m also teaching a class from the same book from which I’m preaching. Teaching a class relieves me of the temptation to go into too much technical detail in my sermon. I’m also able to dialogue with the class some things I’m thinking about preaching. I’ve been able to clarify, sharpen, and even back off of things I’ve thought needed to be said on Sunday morning. I also believe that those who attend the class and then hear the sermon have a much deeper and gratifying experience with the text.

Tonight we’re going to look at the two creation accounts in Genesis 1-2. How are they different? Why are there two? What are the implications of having multiple creation stories lined up side by side?
